Project 1
Reimagining
Due Date: Oct 8th

DESCRIPTION:
For this project you will be asked to reimagine an aspect of existing digital media. Using your new found digital media literacies and strategies you will examine how an existing system can be changed or reimagined using socially-conscious strategies, benefits to marginalized populations, democratic engagements, and engagements with ethics, diversity, audience, and design.

You may pick one of the broader topics we have discussed, a specific subset of a topic, or something entirely of your choosing. Examples include facebook/social media, emojis, algorithms, the internet of things, etc. For instance, you can reimagine an online social network that exists without big data or that is meant specially to serve a marginalized community, or reimagine one aspect of Facebook that would benefit general users. You can strategize how algorithms can be used to help with a social issue, or how privacy or functionality can be more considered in AI or mobile devices. Or how GPS and mapping can be used to benefit migration and immigrant communities. The possibilities are vast with this project.

This is only a proposal for a project. So gather your materials into a proposal that includes images, links, video, etc. You may create a PDF, a presentation, an online document etc. The presentation and arrangement of materials are ultimately up to you, but compose them as though you are pitching your idea to an audience. We will be presenting our projects to each other as a class.
Some example programs or platformas you can use Canva, Prezi, Genially, Medium // Poster, video, animation made with the adobe suite or other editing software, etc, etc

In your proposal make sure you address issues of audience, ethics, diversity, design, and include atleast 3 links/sources of relevant examples or potential source material. I recommend referencing the 1st weeks readings to help plan your proposal outline and strategies, as well as looking ahead to the readings for week 11. Remember the 3 literacies outlined in the first weeks readings - as users of technology, as critics of technology, and as makers of technology.

* Your projects are due via blackboard on Oct 8th, and presentations will happen on Oct 13th & Oct 20th. Schedule to be annouced.
